It conjures up hand-knit sweaters, a crackling fireplace, mugs filled with cocoa, good cheer, warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with string, snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes, silver white winters that melt into… Oh dear…I went off on a song tangent there… Anyway, as I was saying, I like the idea of winter. It's the reality of the season that can sometimes bring me down: bundling up in heavy coats and boots, eternal salt stains on clothes, the endless shoveling of the walk and driveway, days when the sun is hidden behind gray clouds, brrrrrr… Fortunately, I happen to know the perfect place to rid oneself of the occasional winter doldrums – the Chelsea District Library! Leafing through the pages of this publication, you are certain to find a resource or program to help keep you connected, rekindle the mind and spirit, and melt away the winter blues. If winter is getting you down, please remember your library is the perfect place to add a little sunshine and warmth to your day. What's on My Nightstand? Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi (of course! See page 5 for more information on the 2018 Washtenaw Reads pick); Rabbit Cake, by Annie Hartnett; Edgar & Lucy, by Victor Lodato; and Moonglow, by Michael Chabon.
